Donating Blood is harmless and helps a lot!

I haven't blogged in a while, so I thought this would be a nice thing to talk about.
I've been donating blood on a regular basis for more than a year now, and I intend to keep on doing it as long as I am healthy and I'm allowed to do so.
There aren't many pre-requisites for donating blood, and here are some facts about blood donation.
So take an hour off, contact your local hospital, red cross or blood bank and pay them a visit. If you or someone you know ever need blood, you'll depend on a volunteer who donated blood.
Become that volunteer today by donating. Your help may save a life.

I used to donate regularly when i lived in the UK up until 2001 when I moved to the USA.

According to the following, "UNITED KINGDOM: You have visited or lived in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, Gibraltar or Falkland Islands for a total of 3 months or more from 1980 thru 1996." , I cannot donate here yet :(

Anyone know the reason for this rule?
